Help needed + updates!

Hi guys! Not here with another review, but we have a favour, kinda. A good friend of ours is setting up a new cafe, and they're currently looking for a head pastry! So if you or anyone you know is interested, please email us - thetypicalfoodblog@gmail.com

Penning this down through the phone, so not sure how it's gonna show up on the computer. We're gonna be on a 3 week hiatus, as we'll be overseas. We'll be back before you notice we're gone (hopefully) ;) Let us know if you guys want us to review any restaurant and we'll stop by when we get back. Until then! :D

[Review] Harum Manis Indonesian Restaurant

Visited Harum Manis a while ago for Sunday Brunch, and we were in for a surprise. All of us being first-timers, we didn't knew what we were in for, thinking it was just a typical Indonesian Restaurant. Who knew they were award winners for quite a while now, what a gem that we found.

Unlike the normal buffet, there wasn't that much spread, but each station serves really good food. Our favourites would be the Bubur Ayam and Ketoprak. Enough introduction and let the pictures speak a thousand words.

Highlight from the Nasi Station -  do try their Tongseng Kambing / Goat Curry, they most definitely have that goat smell, but if you're a fan of goat, then is what you should be looking out for!

The satay was definitely one of the best for restaurants, leaving out the street vendors aside. Each stick was soft and tender, and there is that charcoal smell to it which adds in to the yum factor.
For both the Ketoprak and Satay, you may ask them to leave out the Lontong / Rice Cake, then you'll have more space for the other yummy goodness.

Bubur Ayam! Such a simple dish, but had us rushing back for more, it was that good! Definitely the highlight of the meal, every last drop was savoured. One of the best in town! It's not in their a la carte menu; but the Bubur Ayam alone is enough to make us come back for their Sunday Brunch.

Overall, we had an enjoyable brunch, where we see ourselves coming back for more, and bringing guests to dine. We have dined here on another occasion for dinner, and is was however, rather disappointing. We find that the food weren't as delish and it was more expensive too!

So, if you want to give it a try, do not give their Sunday Brunch a miss. It was only 135thousand++, for a buffet, it was such a steal!! They're available every Sunday from 11AM to 2.30PM.

[Review] Wilshire

After hearing Le Cousin E nagging me to visit Wilshire, we finally managed to head out for dinner together. It's located in the hub of Jakarta's business district at SCBD. Do come earlier to avoid any traffic or dinner crowd, we had to wait quite a while at the bar before getting a table without prior reservations.

Truffle Pomme Frites - 65thousand
French fries drizzled in truffle oil, first time for us to indulge in Truffle Fries, and I can predict it'll be an addiction. Not sure what proper Truffle Fries are supposed to taste like, but they were tasted way better than regular ones. As for now they'd be deemed as The Best Truffle Fries :)

Penne with Freshly Grated Truffles - 179thousand
Penne tossed in creamy truffle sauce, topped with freshly grated truffles; they were supposed to be served with angel hair, but Le Cousin E had them switched to penne, as her friend had this combination and she loved it.

Club Sandwich - 95thousand
Classic club sandwich with pork bacon, egg, chicken, tomatoes and mizuna greens, served with house made bread. The highlight of the dish was probably the bread, they were so soft and fluffy, the combination of the classic club sandwich just made it better.

The foods were on the pricier side, but they do have a limited lunch menu which is slightly more affordable. So we'll probably check that out some other time. If you've never been to Wilshire before, do give the 'Truffle series' a try ;)

[Review] Bulgogi Brothers

Hailing all the way from South Korea, with the help of the 'Korean Wave', Bulgogi Brothers opened it's first branch here in Jakarta at Lotte Shopping Avenue. Visited Bulgogi Brothers quite a while ago, a week after its opening, for some bites to eat before dinner. We've heard nothing but good words on Bulgogi Brothers from Le Cousins E, he recommends everyone whose visiting South Korea to give it a try.

The 반찬 - side dishes.

The corn soup, on the house. The soup came nice and hot, it was sweet, so you'll either love it or hate it. Taste-wise, they reminded us of the corn flavoured Cheetos, minus the saltiness and MSG.

Haemul Gungjung Mandu (M) - 110thousand

Deep fried seafood dumplings, served with a medley of mussels, shrimp and squid tossed in their homemade spicy sauce. The filling consisted of the same ingredients medley, and tasted like siomay, unlike the regular Mandus that is filled with meat. Given the freshness and amount of seafood, it wasn't that expensive.

Bulgogi Brothers Special (400gr) - 275thousand

A combination of Unyang and Gwangyang Bulgogi - Unyang Bulgogi is a royal dish made from minced beef seasoned with Unyang Sauce and hand=pressed into hearts, whereas, Gwangyang Bulgogi is thinly sliced beef seasoned with Gwangyang sauce, served with mushroom, sweet potatoes, leeks and onion.

You could order these two dishes individually, while the Special would save you 35thousand. They both ended up tasting similar, both so so good, soft and tender. But if we were to choose 1 to eat again, we'd go for the Gwangyang Bulgogi.

A complimentary cup of maesil cha (plum tea) to end a hearty 'tea time'.

To end the post, even though we like each dishes individually, we won't be craving for them. We'd probably be back to try their other dishes, as they also serve soups, bibimbap, noodles and every others dishes found in a typical Korean restaurant.
